[PREVIEW] Mason faces Richmond Spiders in Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic
The Patriots head back to the court after a two-week finals break to face the University of Richmond in the First Annual Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic. The Patriots and Spiders have met a total of 50 times, with the last meeting coming in 2001--- a decisive 77-57 Richmond win.
The Spiders have four players averaging double-digit points, including one of the best backcourts in the Atlantic 10 Conference. They rely heavily on their experienced guard play, three-point shooting, and FG% to win games.
Their backcourt consists of Darien Brothers, Cedrick Lindsay, and Kendall Anthony, all average in double figures. As much as they are experienced in the backcourt, the opposite can be said about the Spiders frontcourt. Derrick Williams is the leader of a young frontcourt that certainly doesn’t lack talent.
Richmond can score a lot of points, averaging nearly 73 points per game, while allowing nearly 65 points per game to their opponents. In addition, the Spiders shoot 45 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from three-point land.

Keys to the Game
The Patriots would love to win this game, many have even dubbed it as a “must-win” for the team. In order for the Patriots to win they must defend the three better than they have at most points this season. The Spiders love to shoot the three and have several players who are more than capable. Also, in all three losses for the Spiders they were out-rebounded. The Patriots have a big size and experience advantage in the paint.
All season long this Patriots team has seen flashes of either brilliance or mediocrity from its point guard play. Defending the three, dominating the paint and consistent point guard play will help propel the Patriots to a win in this matchup. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
