WAVES sends students off with tips to keep safe over spring break
|While Spring Break can be fun and relaxing, it can prove to be dangerous to some college students. WAVES held safety awareness events during the week of March 2 to help prepare students for Spring Break.
One of the events was called “Sex on the Beach.” Named after the fruity cocktail, Sex on the Beach was an informative event that discussed the dangers of mixing alcohol with sexual activity. According to statistics, 50 to 72 percent of sexual assault perpetrators were under the influence of alcohol in sexual assault cases amongst college students.

|The Mason women’s basketball team travels to the Richmond Coliseum to take on 13th seed Massachusetts in the Opening Round of the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championships at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The women and men that can be seen on the sidelines of the basketball games dressed in head to toe peppiness leading the crowd despite the outcome of the games receive little recognition for the accomplishments they achieve on and off the court.
Popov shines as Mason men’s volleyball loses 3-1 to rival No. 10 Penn State
|The Mason men’s volleyball team lost to Penn State 3-1 sets (25-19, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24) Saturday night at the RAC.
Mason (6-8, 2-4 EIVA) lost the first two sets but won a close third set to stay in the match. The fourth set went down to the wire, but this time it was the Nittany Lions (13-3, 6-1) who came on top and won the match.
Hartford Hawks top Mason baseball 4-3 in game 3, but Patriots take series 2-1 over weekend
|The Hartford Hawks defeated the Mason baseball team today 4-3 in 12 innings. The rain, which started in the 8th inning, did not stop these teams from finishing this one off.
Hartford outfielder Ryan Lukach drove in the game-winning run with a short fly ball over the outstretched glove of Mason’s Tucker Tobin. The Patriots had a chance in the bottom of the 12th when Ray Toto reached base. A fly ball to right field ended their hopes to win the game but they still took the weekend series 2-1.
Game 2 called in seventh inning as Mason baseball tops Hartford, 1-0
|Incoming cold weather shortened the second leg of the double header to seven innings, but it yielded another 1-0 Mason win.
Third Basemen Blaise Fernandez put the Patriots ahead in the first inning with a line drive double into right-center field. Josh Leemhuis came around to score after he had walked earlier in the inning. This was a pleasant surprise from the game before where it took until the 6th inning for Mason to plate their first run. However, a couple of double plays ensured that this would be their only run in the game.
Mason baseball defeats Hartford in game 1 over weekend, 1-0
|The Mason baseball team defeated the Hartford Hawks 1-0 in game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. Anthony Montefusco (2-0, 0.00) got the start for the Patriots, and LHP Sean Newcomb (0-1, 0.00) got the start for the Hawks.
Mason men’s volleyball opens rivalry weekend with a 3-1 loss to St. Francis (Pa.)
|The Mason men’s volleyball team lost to St. Francis (Pa.) 3-1 sets Friday night at the RAC, 25-22, 25-22, 27-25 and 25-22.
After losing the first set to the Red Flash, Mason came back and won the second set. The Patriots fell in a close third set, and could not overcome an early lead by St. Francis in the fourth set to lose the opening match of the weekend, 3-1.
Mason men's basketball outlasts Richmond 69-60 for first A-10 home victory
|Mason men’s basketball topped Richmond on Wednesday night at the Patriot Center, 69-60.
Sherrod Wright led the Patriots with 19 points, followed by Bryon Allen with 18 points and seven defensive rebounds. Patrick Holloway also ended the night in double-figures with 10, while Jalen Jenkins had nine rebounds.
