The Mason men’s soccer game against Rhode Island was suspended Friday night after 55 minutes due to heavy rain.

The Patriots led 2-0 after goals from Wes Sever in the 4th minute and Julio Arjona in the 31st minute.

During halftime and in the beginning of the second half, the rain started to fall harder, gradually turning the field into a swamp. The referees decided to call the game as players had difficulty having any success moving the ball.

The university released a statement Friday night that the score and all statistics will be reset and the game will be rescheduled for a future date.

Mason will face off against the University of Massachusetts at home on Sunday, Oct. 13 in another A-10 conference match. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
