Very Superstitious
By Broadside Correspondent Evan Benton
Friday, Feb. 13 may have been last week, but that does not mean the ominous shroud of the unknown has left.
Somewhere in the back of our minds lies that pesky little notion that sometimes calamitous luck and things that go bump in the night can rear their ugly heads.
George Mason University students, like any other college students, have their own superstitions and fears. Some are good, positive ones—like rubbing George Mason’s statue (preferably his foot, or big toe) for luck before exams.

See who got crowned during the Mr. and Ms. Black Mason Pageant. Greek organizations celebrated Black History Month by holding the event in Dewberry Hall last week.

Celebrating the Arts
By Broadside Staff Writer Marian McLaughlin
The College of Visual and Performing Arts put on their first annual 24-hour arts marathon, Making Connections, held this past weekend. Activities began at 8 a.m. last Friday, but coordinators arrived hours before that, running on little sleep as they prepared the open studios for participants.
PHOTOS: Student Art on Campus
Students walking from class to class don't always have time to pause and admire the artwork around campus. But C2M Reporter Jennifer Green put together a collection of photos of some of the best art displays at Mason, including statues outside and student works in the Fine Arts Building.

What To Do If You Get Waitlisted, Deferred, or Denied...
By Connect2Mason Blogger Not Your Average Admissions Blog
When it comes down to it, no admissions decision is really final, but your investment of time and energy may vary widely depending on which letter you receive.
Being deferred is generally an indication that your record is borderline for admission, and the admissions office wants to see some portion of your senior year grades and/or more recent test scores before making a decision. In that case you want to get your grades and scores as high as possible. You may also want to send a note to the office letting them know that you are really interested and that the school is your first choice, if that’s the case.

Travel back to when the Center for the Arts opened for the first time, Mason had a Gospelfest, and greek events were full of whip cream and eggs fights.
How to Write an Opinion Article
By Student Media Copy Editor Tom Breeden
Technically, an opinion cannot be wrong. It can, however, be completely unfounded, poorly argued and absolutely pretentious, which is not the kind of opinion that belongs in the opinion section of a newspaper. I would hope this is not even the kind of opinion that would be held by an open-minded, free-thinking, perspective-seeking student at George Mason University.
