It feels like the closer we get to Spring Break, the more there is going on at Mason. The campus has been buzzing with sporting events this past week with the end of the basketball season and the CAA swimming and diving championships. Trio Raises Money for Homeless Animals

Mason seniors Janelle Miller and Gena Fortune have joined forces with junior Deanna Woodward in an effort to raise money and pet sponsorships for the Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART). The trio will hold a kiosk in the Johnson Center on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise donations that will go toward sponsoring HART animals.

New Legislation Aims to Better Represent Student­­­ Body at Mason

Student Senator Jared Lewis is planning to introduce legislation into Student Government that, if passed, would revamp the system of student representation.

The plan “streamlines the bureaucratic process” by eliminating the Student Senate for the creation of a student union.

Students Unhappy with Snow Decision

Photo by Charlie ChurchIn the wake of the biggest snowstorm northern Virginia has had in three years, many Mason students are disgruntled with the university’s decision to remain open on Monday, despite a delay.

This morning, students were met with the announcement that Mason was to open at 12:30 p.m. due to extreme weather conditions, much to the surprise of students who expected a full closing.

    Tropical locations, booze, bikinis and cruises are all characteristics of a typical spring break getaway. How about trying something different like traveling to a place where you can help a group of people in need or a specific cause?

    Instead of the traditional “Crazy in Cancun” spring break, more and more students are choosing to go on Alternative Break trips. These trips allow students to partake in a break from school, while receiving the satisfaction of community service.

    For Louis Armstrong, the path to recognition began with a trumpet. For Emily Dickinson, a poem. For Ryan Allen, it started with a sequined bra and zebra striped pants ensemble and ended in a media frenzy that made one of our own into an international persona.

After Allen’s drag alter-ego Reann Ballslee was crowned Ms. Mason at the annual Homecoming game on Feb. 14, Allen’s life has been a little out of the ordinary. But despite a schedule full of interviews with news outlets from all over the world including MSNBC and The Washington Post, Allen hasn’t let it go to his head.

You Rock It: A WGMU Video Contest

Running from March 9nd through April 12th, WGMU wants to see your inner rock star. They will be a hosting a contest for George Mason students to submit a mock music video.

The videos must be submitted via YouTube to WGMUContests@gmail.com. Digital CDs can also be submitted to the WGMU mailbox in the Communications Department, Thompson Hall Room 212.

The WGMU staff will review all submissions and vote on a Top 5. The winning videos will then available on the WGMU website for listeners to vote on. The video selected as the winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card.

Genocides of the 20th Century

Beginning the week of March 2nd, George Mason University Sikh Student Association is dedicating a week to bring light to the horrors of genocide.

Schedule:

Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m. in the JC Cinema: Sikh Student Association presents "Amu" on the Sikh genocide.

Tuesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Hanover Hall, DUCC: Hillel presents "Paper Cliips" on the Jewish genocide.

Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m. in SUB II Ballroom: Panel of genocide survivors and GMU faculty presenters will speak. Free dinner provided.

Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in SUB II Rms 3 & 4: Mason Community Outreach presents "Screamers," on the Armenian genocide and featuring System of a Down.

Admission to all events is FREE!
