Sorority Hosts "Know Hip-Hop"

You might know that the birthplace of hip-hop is New York City. You might also know that the first hip-hop album to win a Grammy was back in 1989 by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Well, there will be an opportunity to learn more about hip-hop on Wednesday, at 7 p.m. as the pink and green ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will host, “OI Know Hip-Hop.”

America's got talent? More like Mason's got talent.
Last Tuesday, students packed into the Student Union Building II ballroom to watch the annual homecoming week talent show.
The talent show, hosted by senior Lee Warner, began with an introduction of the three judges; Katie Murray, assistant director of programs and services, LaMar Rice, resident director of Chesapeake housing area and Key Jones, graduate assistant of fraternity and sorority life.

Best Places to Study on Campus

A significant part of being a college student involves studying. George Mason University is a large campus with a variety of study spaces available.
One popular study spot is the Johnson Center. The JC is located at the center of campus and tends to be the social heart of Mason.
“My favorite place on campus to study is the JC. It’s not too quiet and not too loud,” said Stephanie Hair, a junior communication major.
RAP Applications Due Mar. 6

RAP forms became available last Wednesday, Feb. 11 and the due dates are soon. RAP Applications along with the room change closing dates will be due the first week of March, right before Spring Break.
According to http://housing.gmu.edu, the RAP (Room Assignment Process) Applications closing date will be Friday, March 6. The last day to submit a Room Change Request Form will be Thursday, March 5.
PHOTOS: Mason Pride at Homecoming
Homecoming week culminated in a day-long celebration of Mason with an early morning block party and a packed basketball game. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and other Mason fans came out decked in their finest green and gold attire and ready to support the Patriots. Mason won the game, and fans were treated to performances from the cheerleaders and Masonettes as well as a surprise marriage proposal during a time-out.

Drag Queen Wins Ms. Mason

Ryan Allen became the first drag queen to win Ms. Mason at this week’s Homecoming 2009 "No One Has Swagger Like Us" Mr. and Ms. Mason contest.
Allen, a senior, ran as his counterpart, Reann Ballslee, donning a red wig, matching silver earrings and silver bracelet, a long red dress, and silver high heels. Announced during halftime at yesterday’s homecoming game, Allen said he was “shocked” to hear of his win.
Kyle Grooms Brings Comedy to the Johnson Center

One thing we have come to expect from the Program Board as a student body with nothing better to do is big names when it comes to entertainment. Program Board surely delivered when they had Kyle Grooms take the stage in the Johnson Center Bistro as part of their lineup of Homecoming activities. Grooms is best known for his extensive stage experience with shows like Comedy Central Presents, BET’s Comicview, and the Def Comedy Jam. We have also seen his face a few times on the notorious Chappelle’s Show. After seeing his performance, it is easy to see where his comedic influences lie.

Capoeira Club Performs for Black History Month

With legs swinging over heads, slow motioned headstands and roundhouse kicks, the George Mason University Capoeira Club performance for Black Heritage Month was nothing short of striking. The event was held in the Johnson Center Atrium last Thursday night.
Black Heritage Month liaison for the group, Andrias White, said that the whole experience was very exciting.
