Sustainability Council Meeting

Twice a month representatives from college departments, faculty senate, Student Government, Greek organizations and other activist groups at George Mason University, gather for the Sustainability Council meetings. The council’s name is a basic explanation of the organizations main goal, which is to represent all aspects of sustainability in campus, which include economic, equity and environmental issues.

Mason Alert Plans Quarterly Testing

According to Director of Media Relations John Blacksten, the Mason Alert system will be undergoing quarterly testing on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. The test will send two types of messages to registered users: cell phone text messages and e-mails.

Chi Omega Helps Make Wishes Come True

Chi Omega, a sorority chapter that began at George Mason University in 1967, hopes to continue the tradition of community service after 31 years.

Recently, the sorority organization teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation which grants wishes to children patients like those suffering from life-threatening ailments such as cancer.

Mason Works to Promote Alternative Transportation

It is widely accepted that George Mason University is largely made of commuting students.

Because of this, parking becomes something that must be planned into one’s schedule every day. This is particularly true for students who have class at peak times on the busiest days, which are Tuesdays and Thursdays. For some, it is not only an issue of time, but of safety, as well.

A lawsuit filed by the Iota Xi chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity at George Mason University against several Mason administrators was dismissed by a federal judge today.

Sex Offenders Evicted From Virginia

One hundred and seventy one convicted criminal sex offenders will be removed from Virginia in a major action taken jointly by the Virginia State Police and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, under the leadership of Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell.

University Closed Until Noon, Friday, Feb. 22

On the university website, it is announced that the Fairfax campus will open at noon today, Feb. 22. Most operations in the Johnson Center are closed, though dining venues The Bistro and Lat Patisserie are open, according to the information desk.

Fairfax County Public Schools are closed for the day.

Hubler Reaches Out to Grieving Students

Sandy Hubler, the vice president of University Life, sent out a mass email early Friday morning extending her condolences and professional support to those affected by the Northern Illinois University shootings.

With cheerful tears and celebration, Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia earlier this week.

The majority Albanian and secular Muslim population separated from the Christian Orthodox Serbia under heated scrutiny and rejection from world powers China and Russia. After years of rule and tyranny, Kosovo declared itself a republic.
