Inside the Lives of Muslim Women

The Muslim Students Association (MSA) held a panel discussion titled “The Lives of Muslim Women” on Tuesday night as part of Islam Awareness week. This event comes on the second day of a week that MSA hopes will shed light on the “making of a Muslim.”

At the panel discussion were three Muslim women who were there to speak about the role of Islam in their life. Speaker Narmeen Slim summarized the discussion as an “idea about how a Muslim woman lives her life.”
Redesign Sustainability

A few George Mason University professors presented their sustainability influenced curriculum in an effort to push for a sustainability studies minor and encourage other professors to make their courses greener.
At an event on Feb. 20 in SUB I Room A, professors from the College of Humanities and Social Science and College of Science talked about teaching courses influenced by or directly devoted to environmental consciousness. The event was sponsored by the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Student Government Elections

Students at George Mason University have many opinions concerning the way the campus functions. A great way for students to voice their opinions and gain campaign experience is to run for Student Government.
This spring, students can run for president, vice-president or for 40 open seats in the senate. Election packets are now available in the Student Activities Office, which is located in the lower level of Student Union Building I. These packets are basic applications that will be reviewed by the Student Elections Commission.
Popsicle Bridge Contest Held at Mason

The Society of American Military Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers passed the task of creating bridges on to high school students. Their only building material was seemingly ordinary Popsicle sticks. The rules are that each team of no more than three students has to design a bridge that is aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly, can also withstand weight.

Clinton's Critiques May Not Be the Way to Go

Despite Hillary Clinton’s allegations, which many see as crushing desperation, the Washington Post’s Alex MacGillis wrote today in his article ‘Finding Political Strength in the Power of Words’: “Contrary to Obama's reputation as a fiery orator who traffics mainly in abstractions, much of the speech is delivered in a conversational tone, and it includes a long middle section of policy prescriptions.”
Indeed, a quick scan of the Post today reveals quite a few things about the state of Clinton’s campaign.
MSA Hosts Islam Awareness Week

The Muslim Student Association kicked off its Islam Awareness Week with a lecture by Imam Mohamed Magid, the Executive Director of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS). According to the MSA, the Monday night event was meant to tell “the story of a man named Ka'ab struggling against himself in the path of pleasing God.”
President of MSA, Farooq Yousuf, said that the goal of this event and Islamic Awareness week was to share the virtues, beliefs and characteristics of Muslims. In fact, the overriding theme, says Yousuf, was the idea of “the making of a Muslim.”
Don't Forget Your Bluebooks!

No matter how far in advance professors and faculty members announce their test dates, students always seem to be caught by surprise on test day.
On top of preparing for a test at the last minute, students now have to provide their own Bluebooks and Scantrons, in addition to making it to class on time for the test.
This scene has some George Mason University students saying the need for personal supplies is more of a hassle than anything.
De-Stress Day at Prince William Campus

An hour away from the George Mason University Fairfax campus, students started their semester with a snooze.
University Life services at Mason’s Prince William campus hosted the first De-Stress Day of the spring semester Thursday, Feb. 21. This marks the second year the campus will host the monthly program.
