Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell has a long history of championing conservative positions on social issues like gay marriage, but with Democratic opponent Creigh Deeds stating his belief marriage is “between a man and a woman,” the campaign for the Governor’s Mansion is proceeding with a uniformity of opinion from both sides on one of the Commonwealth’s most divisive and emotional issues.

Hundreds to Walk Patriot Circle to Prevent Suicide on Saturday

Over 32,000 people die of suicide in the United States every year. Tomorrow, hundreds of people will walk Mason's campus in an effort to prevent suicide from occurring.

The Fairfax NOVA Suicide Prevention Walk is organized through Out of the Darkness Community Walks, which puts together walks throughout the country. Walkers raise money through donations for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to fund research, education, and programs for suicide awareness and survivors.

Lives changed on Nov. 9, 1989 when people from East and West Berlin were allowed to meet freely once again. The Berlin Wall was not just concrete and wire, but a representation of constraint—Cold War hatred and inequality. Twenty years later, many still remember images of people tearing apart the concrete and shouting for joy.

In celebration of this event, George Mason University students will have the opportunity to participate in a re-creation of the Berlin Wall.
