There are few students on George Mason University’s Fairfax campus that do not know the agony of waiting in line at the mail room.  More often than not, the line weaves around the mail stacks and along the hallway as students wait to receive their packages.

During the week of April 17, 2013, a man mailed ricin-laced letters to a congressman and the president of the United States. Ricin is highly toxic and is often fatal to humans. While no one was injured in the incident, it was highly reminiscent of the 2001 anthrax letters that killed five and stunned the nation.

In lieu of these attacks, new facilities were created between 2001 and 2005 to investigate bioterrorism and to fortify national defense against viral agents. One of these facilities was the National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases (NCBID), founded in 2001 and located at George Mason University’s Prince William Campus.

Over the past month, many George Mason University students have seized the opportunity to express their opinions about the Mason police department through the Mason Community Police Survey. While the results are not expected back for another week, the survey already has students talking.

 According to an email by President Ángel Cabrera, the survey was developed by the Police-Community Advisory Council to collect important information to improve the performance of the police force.

Students who park in the Rappahannock Neighborhood may need to move their car before the start of spring break.

Construction on George Mason University's new Shenandoah Residence Hall is expected to begin over spring break, forcing many students to relocate their cars from the northern part of Lot R by 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8.
