Students create booming Mason cyber culture
|Over the past year, George Mason University has gained national recognition and developed a more engaged student body. Now, Mason’s cyber community is taking the internet by storm.
Parking Services director answers students' questions on Reddit
|Last week, Josh Cantor, director of parking and transportation, answered students’ questions in an online forum on the website Reddit. Questions focused on the high cost of parking and future plans of expansion.
New global studies building to replace Lecture Hall
|Say goodbye to the Lecture Hall. The 47-year-old building is being demolished to make way for the new Rappahannock Building, a multi-purpose facility centered on global studies.
The Rappahannock Building, opening fall of 2015, will be six stories tall, with the top four floors devoted to student housing.
“Housing will be mostly for the globally themed [Learning Living Communities],” said Judith Green, executive director of the Office of International Programs and Services.
Incoming faculty to be subject to new background checks
|In the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky investigation, George Mason University has instated a new policy that requires background investigations for all Mason faculty and staff. The new policy was instituted in June 2012 by senior faculty leadership.
Before the policy, only faculty and staff working in departments that require security clearances have been subjected to a background check.
Mason commemorates 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis
|To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, George Mason University in conjunction with the Cold War Museum, held a series of panels on Oct. 27.
“There are many explanations for why the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred,” explained Dr. Sergei Khrushchev, son of the late Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. “All of them wrong.”
