Is The Democratic Contest Over?
By Connect2Mason Columnist Lars Garvey Laing-Peterson
I was going to do a lengthy analysis, obviously one-sided as I've made my feelings about Clinton more than well known, but then I stumbled upon Dana Milbank's most recent Rough Sketch column... and, well, there wasn't much else that I could say, and no chance that I could say it better.
Funneling $6.4 million into her campaign doesn't do much to make me reconsider my position that Clinton's prepared to Win At All Costs. It also frightens me that these strange contests cost so much, and that this money obviously should be being spent on the grand promises that we hear out of the candidates' mouths and not on the plane fare to get from Indiana to West Virginia. A law needs to be imposed stating that potential nominees can only spend so much on their campaigns (an amount to be decided by someone who understands that Campaign Pageantry a bit better than I, but a figure much lower than the horrendous numbers we see flash onto our television screens). I have no particular issue with civilian donations, but it seems odd that they are willing to donate to a candidate and not to the causes the candidate stands for. This is America, though, and I'm not going to tell people what they should do.
Speaking of "should do," I'm going to try and find a shady patch of grass and get a few hours rest. I hope the rest of you have planned better for your final exams and papers. Good luck.
