Plans are underway for new developments to expand Patriot Circle into "The Oval," according to recent construction plans featured on George Mason University’s Facilities Web site. New additions include at least one university gateway, retail and convenience stores as well as innovative landscaping.

“The intersection of Braddock Road will be improved with a to create a threshold and establish the university’s gateway.”

Regarding the landscaping of the Oval, Facilities promises that it will improve the campus atmosphere on the Fairfax campus.

“Prominent buildings such as Mason Hall, the Center for the Arts, and the Patriot Center surround the Oval. New plantings, walking paths, seating, and pedestrian-oriented lighting will enhance the visitor experience.”

According to the information provided on the Web site, “The existing topography that surrounds Mason Pond provides an ideal focal point for the campus. New residential and research buildings will define the space to the south and west, unifying the new development with the existing campus.”

Along with the normal amenities, there will be a drugstore, print shop, hair salon, café, post office service, dry cleaning and a miniature convenience store.
