Students react to Coach Larranaga's departure
Just days after the shocking news of former Men's Basketball head coach Jim Larranaga's announcement that he was leaving the program to head to South Beach to coach Miami, students on campus have their reaction to the news.
Larranaga coached the Patriots for 14 seasons, including the famous run to the Final Four in 2006. He led this year's squad to a school-record regular season, going 26-6 and 16-2 in the CAA, and gave the program its first ever regular season national ranking.
Due to the success of this year's squad and the quality of players returning, the Patriots are ranked No. 25 in the nation in the preseason CBS Sports poll.
However, with Larranaga's sudden exodus, it remains uncertain whether the two incoming freshman will come to Mason at all. Small forward Vaughn Gray and point guard Corey Edwards are expected to join the team in the fall, but have the option of backing out of their committments becuase of the coaching changes.
Also uncertain is who will be hired as the coach for next season.
