Students, Merten Discuss Leadership

President Alan Merten held a Presidential Leadership Dialogue yesterday, March 4, in Mason Hall as part of an ongoing effort to promote student leadership at Mason.

Merten reflected on his first moments as a leader in the following positions:

• President of a high school student council
• White House social aide
• Dean of business schools in Florida and Cornell
• Mason President

Prior to the event, Lisa Snyder, the Associate Director for Leadership Education and Development and the organizer of the event, sent out a brief reading to all participants in the dialogue, “Leadership is Everyone’s Business.” Merten used the article to discuss the finer points on being a leader.

After Merten spoke, the students networked their peers and discussed future ideas. Some of the groups represented were Mason Ambassadors, Emerging Leaders and Broadside.
