Patriots Beat Huskies 64-53

George Mason's men's basketball team emerged victorious in the Homecoming Game against the Northeastern Huskies 64-53.

In the first 20 minutes of the game, Mason scored 17 points. In the first eight minutes of the second half, the Patriots (17-8, 10-5) scored 22 points to win the game.

Despite shooting just 34.8 percent in the first half, Mason was able to hold Northeastern (16-9, 11-4) to 26.9 percent from the field. Even though Mason allowed Northeastern to score 10 points off turnovers in the first half, the Patriots did not let the game slip away as the Huskies held at-most a five-point lead.

Senior guard John Vaughan led Mason with 16 points after scoring only two in the first half. Entering the game with 11.6 points per game, sophomore guard Cam Long recorded his second-ever double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Patriots shot 54.5 percent from the field and went to the free throw line 32 times in the second half after shooting just four free throws in the first 20 minutes.

The Huskies shot 54.8 percent in their 58-57 win against Mason last month. After scoring 20 points in their first meeting, junior guard Matt Janning was held to 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting. As a team, Northeastern shot just 34 percent. The Huskies became the 12th victim at the Patriot Center this season.
