The Patriot Express

By Broadside Editor-In-Chief Nicole Ocran

George Mason University is co-sponsoring the Patriot Express — a five-day, cross-country roadtrip across the Mid-west—following Robert Raffety, adjunct professor of law and public policy, as he covers the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Minn.

Along the way, Raffety will stop at several college campuses in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to interview faculty and students interested in the upcoming election.

Government and international politics major Aaron Webb will be accompanying Raffety along the way assisting with production, providing video, recording audio, and taking photographs. The Project Breakout camera crew will also be documenting human-interest stories and behind-the-scenes footage.

According to the site, the goal is to “motivate people to get involved in the democratic process” in a non-partisan way and get the community actively involved in political discussions.

Blogs, video blogs and podcasts will be available at www.thepatriotexpress.com. The “Daily Pundit” podcast features Raffety and Webb discussing the day’s happenings.

Raffety recently won the grand prize in the 2008 Project Breakout Political Pundit Contest, who is also co-sponsoring the journey.

The first stop on the trip is to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Aug. 27.
