Panel to discuss impact of social media on the Middle East
During Egypt’s recent political uprising, social media played a major role in rallying Egyptians around their cause of pushing former President Hosni Mubarak out of office.
On Saturday, Oneblue.tv will be filming the pilot episode of their new internet broadcast, with the first topic being “Can Social Media Bring Democratic Reform to the Middle East?”
The discussion will include guest speaker Aziz Abu Sarah, the director of the Middle East Project at George Mason University. Sarah will discuss the role of social media in democratic reform and will take questions from members of the audience.
Mason Cable Network will be sponsoring the event and it will be filmed in David King Hall, Room 1010.
The event is free and open to students and will occur between 1-4 p.m. A reception with food and refreshments will follow the discussion.
