Outloud Magazine covers issues pertaining to LGBTQ community
The Office of Student Media is premiering a new publication this Wednesday, Outloud Magazine. The magazine covers a variety of issues pertaining to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) community at George Mason University.
This is the inaugural issue of the magazine.
Editor-in-chief senior Quincey Smith says he created the magazine in an effort to get more people talking about issues relating to the LGBTQ community. Students wrote stories varying from personal testimonies to news-style features.
From deconstructing identities to exposing discrimination, Smith says the magazine aims to encourage students to engage in conversations in an effort to gain further understanding of the LGBTQ community.
The launch party for the magazine will be on Wednesday from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Hub (SUB II) room 1014. Stop by to meet the staff and pick up a copy of the magazine. The magazine will be available after Wednesday throughout locations on the campus and in the Office of Student Media.
George Mason University has been named one of the top 100 colleges and universities for LGBTQ students and has received 4 out of 5 stars on the LGBT-friendly Campus Climate Index.
Smith, co-captain of Mason's forensics team, is this year's student commencement speaker.
