Mason's Network Down, GMU.EDU Unavailable
UPDATE: Blackboard, Mason mail and GMU.edu are accessable to some. Some issues still have not been resolved. Many students are still not able to access the network due to instability in the network itself.
Mason's Data Center computer operator Benita James said there is no data loss to be reported at this time. According to James, students will receive e-mails sent between the time the network went down to now, but the system will be very slow in recovering them, which means students will have to wait.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Monday, a problem occurred with George Mason University's network preventing its server from being accessed. It is currently impossible to access www.gmu.edu along with any other student, department or faculty site hosted on Mason's servers including Mason e-mail and Blackboard.
According to Gerry Lee, an operations technician at the Information Technology Unit Data Center, a network technician is currently looking into the problem. Until the network technician can make an assessment, there is no solution time-estimate.
It was previously reported by Connect2Mason that the problem had stemmed from a Data Center failure, however newly acquired information points to a network malfunction.
Connect2Mason is actively reporting on the situation. At this time there has been no official statement from the university.
