The women’s lacrosse team (2-4) lost 16-10 to the fourth-ranked Georgetown University Hoyas (5-2) on Wednesday at George Mason Stadium.

The Patriots found themselves down 5-2 after the first 10 minutes of the first half, but the team would storm back into the game after scoring five unanswered goals to take the lead at 7-5 with 5:32 remaining in the first.

The final three goals of that streak came from junior attacker Megan Udovich, who seemed nearly unstoppable around the goal in the first half. For 12-and-a-half minutes, Mason scored five consecutive goals and rarely allowed the Hoyas to control the ball, much less get a shot off.

That feat would be short-lived.

Ten seconds after Mason’s fifth and final goal of the streak, the Hoyas responded with a goal of their own, cutting the Patriot lead to just one at 7-6.

The Hoyas would then go on their own streak to close out the half, scoring two more goals to go into halftime leading the upset-minded Patriots 8-7.

The competitiveness of the first half did not transfer to the second half as the Hoyas scored the first goal of the second half at the 26:39 mark, which extended the Hoyas’ lead to 9-7.

Senior midfielder Alana Chan tried to keep the Patriots close, scoring a goal of her own four minutes later, but the 9-8 score would be the closest Mason would get to the Hoyas for the rest of the game.

Udovich, with her three goals, and sophomore attacker Madalyn Jamison, with her two, were the only Patriots to score more than one goal in the game. Udovich’s three goals put her on top as the team’s current scoring leader with 11. Senior attacker Brittany Berger scored her 10th goal of the season as well. In contrast to Mason’s scoring woes, the Hoyas had three players that scored four goals apiece, outscoring the entire Patriot team by two.

Mason (3-4) beat the Iona College Gaels (1-6) 21-6 on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. Mason doubled their first half scoring output, scoring 14 goals in the second half on their way to an impressive rout over Iona.

The Patriots had two players with six points apiece. Berger posted five goals and one assist and Jamison had two goals and four assists.

The astounding stat accumulation did not stop with Berger and Jamison. Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Gamble also had four assists plus a goal of her own goal. Freshman midfielder Emily Ellisen had four goals and Udovich had her second hat trick in a row, scoring three goals and an impressive assist.

The game was rather competitive at the beginning with Iona keeping pace with Mason.

Mason went on a three-goal scoring tear in the final 5: 35 to lead the Gaels 7-2 at the half.

That scoring streak would follow the Patriots into the second half. Mason scored four more unanswered goals in the second half to push the lead to 11-2.

Mason relaxed on defense after opening up a 10-point lead and Iona took advantage, scoring twice in under a minute, to cut Mason’s lead down to eight points with 18:04 remaining.

The Patriots regained their focus and posted three more goals on the scoreboard.
Mason finished with 21 goals, the highest scoring output of the season for the Patriots this season.
