Defective heater unit causes evacuation at Piedmont Hall

Smoke was reported this evening on the fourth floor of Piedmont Hall resulting in the evacuation of Tidewater and Piedmont Halls

Dispatch was called at 7:01 p.m. and members from the Fairfax City Fire Department and Fairfax County Fire Department responded. A defective heater unit was the cause for the release of smoke, said Fairfax City Fire Department Battalion Chief John Ahrens.

There were no injuries reported and the sprinkler systems weren’t activated.
