Boxwoods chef takes leave of absence following arrest

Konrad Meier, executive chef at the Mason Inn’s Boxwoods restaurant, has taken a leave of absence following his Feb. 3 arrest for allegedly being drunk in public. 

Meier, 42, was apprehended by George Mason University police at the Mason Inn and held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center until he was sober.

Mason Inn staff refused to comment on the incident, citing concerns for Meier’s privacy and a desire not to hamper what they described as an ongoing investigation.

Mason police listed the case as “cleared by arrest.”

Karen Cutler, an official from hospitality management company ARAMARK, with whom Meier was employed, declined to discuss the chef’s specific circumstances.

“ARAMARK is committed to conducting its business with the utmost integrity and according to the highest ethical standards,” she said. “Employees are required to comply with our business conduct policy.”

Meier recently accepted the position as executive chef last semester after the first chef, Mark Geis, resigned.

It is unclear how long Meier will remain on leave.
