The View from Behind the Plate

The first time freshman catcher Morgan “Morgy” Davis met the two-time CAA Player of the Year pitcher Kayleigh Lotti. Davis struck out in all three at-bats with the first two coming off 0-2 counts.
Davis is one of Mason’s offensive threats in the middle of the order. She currently leads Mason with a .324 batting average and holds a .568 slugging percentage. In 74 at-bats, she has four home runs, six doubles and 18 RBIs.
A Peek at This Week's Games

The baseball team, which was riding a 10-game winning streak earlier this season, will host the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks this weekend in a matchup between the CAA juggernauts.
The Seahawks (17-5, 5-1) dropped two games last week, but the team continues to display their strong offense.
Sophomore catcher Cody Stanley and junior infielder Robbie Monday lead the team with six home runs each. Stanley and Monday are batting .287 and .286, respectively.
The two will be matched up with Mason’s sluggers senior left fielder Scott Krieger and junior first baseman Justin Bour.
Mason Synchro Competes in San Antonio

It seems apparent that many students do not pay attention to Mason sports other than basketball, but the synchronized swimming club team is making a splash nationally.
Junior nursing major Megan Sturm and junior English major Sabra Hayes founded the synchronized swimming team in 2006. During the team's first season, Mason Synchro earned a trip to collegiate nationals, where they finished 17th in the country after practicing nearly 20 hours a week in the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Mason Equestrian Club Competes in Richmond

This past Sunday, the Equestrian Club participated in regional competition at the University of Richmond, which includes 13 different teams from the Zone Four, Region One. Notable schools in the region included George Washington University, University of Mary Washington and the College of William & Mary.
Each rider must place in the top three during regional competition to continue to Zones next Sunday at Mary Washington. At Zones, the top two riders from each class will advance to Nationals at the University of Tennessee.

Volleyball: Mason Beats Ohio State

After five tough matches away, the George Mason University Patriots volleyball team returned to the Field House stronger than ever. Mason (9-8) downed 14th ranked Ohio State Univerity Buckeyes (8-9) in four sets (30-27, 30-24, 29-31, 30-27) last Friday.
The Patriots returned from a long trip in California where they played UC Santa Barbara, California Baptist and Pepperdine. Although the Patriots came home with three losses, those games were fundamental for the team.
Former Patriot Joins NBA D-League Team

Exactly three years ago, Lamar Butler and the radiant expression on his face
represented George Mason University on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Butler, who played overseas in 2007, looks to revive his basketball career with the Reno Bighorns in the NBA Development League.

Tennis: Mason's Own USTA Team

The George Mason University Tennis Club is the latest club sport to join the list of intramural sports offered at Mason. Created by co-presidents sophomore Michelle Le and sophomore Mike Pippa, the club is open to all Mason students regardless of experience.
According to Le, the club’s purpose is to “provide an intercollegiate tennis team for all Mason students who wish to continue to play tennis actively at a competitive level.”

Mason Hits Four Home Runs During the Week

After the alteration between wins and losses in the past two weeks, the George
Mason University Patriots finally had a two-game winning streaking work in their favor as they swept the Mount St. Mary’s University Mount on Wednesday.
Mason (12-11) manhandled the Mount (2-15) in just five innings in their 10-2 win in the first game. The offense racked up 12 hits and never looked back after getting off to a hot start.
A High-Scoring Affair

The women’s lacrosse team (2-4) lost 16-10 to the fourth-ranked Georgetown University Hoyas (5-2) on Wednesday at George Mason Stadium.
The Patriots found themselves down 5-2 after the first 10 minutes of the first half, but the team would storm back into the game after scoring five unanswered goals to take the lead at 7-5 with 5:32 remaining in the first.
The final three goals of that streak came from junior attacker Megan Udovich, who seemed nearly unstoppable around the goal in the first half. For 12-and-a-half minutes, Mason scored five consecutive goals and rarely allowed the Hoyas to control the ball, much less get a shot off.
