Mason Student Reaches For Stars, Finds Galaxy

Junior Lisa Horne recently found her name placed in the astronomy history books when she discovered a new galaxy. Horne found the spiral galaxy, AGC 310842, on just her second day of work at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York this past summer, as part of an undergraduate apprenticeship program here at Mason.

Soda Machines Now Take Credit

Students, faculty and staff no longer need to carry around dollars and coins for soda, as machines now accept all major credit cards. These machines are not compatible with either freedom meal plans or Mason Money.

SJP Hosts Candlelight Vigil

Students for Justice in Palestine held an “End the Siege on Gaza” candlelight vigil on Wednesday at the clock tower in the Johnson Center North Plaza. The event, which hoped to raise awareness to current everyday conditions of Palestinians, accumulated nearly 85 people in attendance.

Mason Celebrates Dr. King

The George Mason University community reflected on the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 30 at a commemoration for the Nobel Peace Prize-winning civil rights leader.

Following a musical performance by the GMU Gospel Choir, Mason Provost Dr. Peter Stearns spoke to the Dewberry Hall audience, noting the importance of reflecting on the life of Dr. King.

Proposed Separate License Plates for DUI Drivers

Virginia Delegate Lionel Spruill is proposing to put special license plates on the cars of drivers with three or more DUI convictions.

Prompted by a drunk driving accident resulting in a death in Chesapeake, VA, Spruill introduced the bill last year as well, but it was rejected by the committee. Spruill is reintroducing it with only minor changes. According to Spruill, a license suspension isn't enough.

"So what?" Spruill said. "They're still driving."
