2012-2013 Mason women's basketball preview
|The Mason women’s basketball season has officially started with a fall to the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies, 62-58 on Nov. 9. The first home opener is in sight and it is due time to preview the Lady Patriots’ season.
To get a better idea of how the Lady Patriots will finish the season, I took the time to look through last season’s depth chart and statistics to get a better gauge.

Erik Copes and Vaughn Gray suspended three games for student-athlete misconduct
|George Mason University men's basketball players Erik Copes and Vaughn Gray were suspended three games Tuesday for violating student-athlete conduct rules. Both student-athletes are sophomores and will miss the home-opener against the University of Virginia on Friday, Nov. 9, an away game versus Bucknell on Nov. 13 and the Patriots' first game of the Paradise Jam Tournament against Mercer on Nov. 16.
According to school officials, Copes and Gray will be allowed to practice with the team but will be unable to dress for games.

But, with Virginia Commonwealth leaving the conference for the Atlantic 10, the future of the tournament in Virginia's capital is up in the air.

|It's hard to gauge how well a team will perform throughout a full season based on one exhibition game against a team that plays in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Although the experienced Bowie State Bulldogs gave the Patriots all they could muster Thursday night in a close 76-72 contest, only so much can truly be taken away from the outcome and the contents of the exhibition.

Fairfax native Jimmy Lange upset by Tony Jeter in ten rounds at Patriot Center
|On the eve of Hurricane Sandy, a hurricane of upsets and knockouts swept through the Patriot Center as professional boxing returned to the venue. The show leading up to the main event was not a letdown, as the Beltway Brawl was. The night that would be capped off with Jimmy Lange (38-5-2 25 KO’s) taking on Tony “Mo’ Better” Jeter (15-3-1 10 KO’s) included a streak of three straight first-round knock outs.
Shorthanded Patriots survive Bowie State in 76-72 exhibition win
|In their first game against outside competition, the George Mason Patriots were able to squeak past the Bowie State Bulldogs, 76-72 in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Patriot Center.
Without preseason All-CAA selection Sherrod Wright (athletic department violation) and junior starting point guard Bryon Allen (shoulder/neck injury), Mason had to make up for their absence with sophomore guard Corey Edwards and Seton Hall transfer Anali Okoloji filling in.
Senior night spoiled as Mason falls to JMU, 2-1 on Saturday night
|In a primetime showdown between two Colonial Athletic Association rivals Saturday, the George Mason (10-5, 3-4) men’s soccer team fell to James Madison, 2-1 in front of a crowd of the 1,253 at George Mason Stadium.
Throughout the first half, the teams played two separate styles. The Patriots relied on set pieces, forcing four corner kicks, taking five shots. While the Dukes (6-5-3, 4-1-2) played an up-tempo game, creating chances with short one-touch passes between midfielders. However, neither team could break through on the score sheet.
