Blackboard mobile coming soon to Sprint users
|Starting in the fall, Sprint users will be able to download Blackboard Mobile.
The service, which will allow users extensive functionality, is not available for other phone carriers besides Sprint. Although the app can be found in the iPhone and Android markets, it will not work unless the user is on a Sprint phone.
One anticipated feature of the app will allow professors to take photographs with their cell phones and immediately post it to their Blackboard page.
Students raise $1,400 for cancer research
|A group of George Mason University students in the Management 463 “Negotiations in Organizations” class were able to collect $1,400 dollars for cancer research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The members, Ben Welicka, Sammy Kassim and Maryann Shih, all senior management majors, were assigned a charity to assist as part of the class and through campaigning organizations and businesses, were able to collect $1,300 from just GMU groups.

Timeliness of MasonAlert questioned
|The MasonAlert system has come under scrutiny by the Mason community after people received texts and emails regarding recent emergency situations on campus about an hour after the incidents were first reported.
When a gas leak occurred next to Lecture Hall on Oct. 6 police received the call for the gas main break at 11:09 a.m. but some people did not receive a MasonAlert until almost an hour later.

Five-year plan to bolster student scholarship, create research opportunities
|With the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools set to visit George Mason University in March as part of the reaccreditation process, work continues on the Quality Enhancement Plan that is part of SACS’ requirements.
In order to receive reaccreditation, SACS requires schools to come up with a five-year plan to improve an issue related to student learning at the institution.
