GMU, VTU Serve the Community with 'The Big Event'
By Connect Mason News Director Elizabeth Stern
A community service project partnership between GMU's Arlington campus and Virginia Tech will culminate in "The Big Event" April 5.
Virginia Tech's largest community service project to date will host over 3000 volunteer students working to complete more than 450 community service projects as individuals and in groups. Public Information Manager Anna Rabinowitz for GMU's Arlington campus said that about 50 Mason students are expected to participate.
The projects themselves, which will last up to four hours, involve various tasks such as painting, yard work and collecting trash.
"This first-ever collaborative effort between George Mason's Arlington campus and Virginia Tech's National Capital Region campus will involve a clean-up project at the start of Four Mile Run in Falls Church," Rabinowitz said.
The event is VT's way of thanking the New River Valley community for the support they have provided over the last year.
The event will last from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Isaac Crossman Park entrance, located at 501 Van Buren, Falls Church, Virginia.
Refreshments will be provided.
Although students were asked to RSVP by March 28, you can e-mail Wendi Carroll at wcarrol2@gmu.edu to inquire about registering yourself or your organization to offer community service.
