Groups Hosts Series of Holocaust Events

Throughout history, visual and verbal storytelling has helped unite communities, perpetuate myth and in many cases, preserve history. In late March, George Mason University will hold a two-night event intended to explore these topics and expose the current generation to the atrocities and triumphs surrounding the Holocaust.

On March 24 at 7 p.m., Mason’s Social Programming Board, Community Outreach, University Scholars and Alpha Lambda Delta National Freshman Honor Society will screen the film, Schindler’s List, which was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993. The docudrama, which focused on Nazi Germany’s plan during the Holocaust, will be viewed in SUB II Rooms 5 and 7.

On March 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Mason Hall Rooms D3A and D3B, a discussion with Holocaust survivor Manya Friedman will be held, where she will share her historic experiences and talk with students about Jewish heritage. Pres. Alan Merten will speak at the event, as well as department of history Professor Dr. Marion Deshmukh, who will moderate the discussion.

In a recent e-mail, Deshmukh said, “We are delighted that Pres. Merten will be attending and welcoming guests on Wednesday.”
