OPINION: Super Bowl XLVIII with so much potential turns into a dud

I think my favorite was either the Seinfeld one or the puppy one…oh, and the Tebow one was good.  Oh you want to know about what happened in the game?  Does anyone really want to talk about that?  Not much happened.  Offensively there was nothing and  it was very one-sided from the get-go.  The Conference Championships were close, suspenseful games. They gave so much promise towards this game, but it was not even close last night, as Seattle pummeled Denver by the final score of 43-8.

OPINION: The best possible Super Bowl is one in cold weather

Relax Mike Ditka, a cold weather Super Bowl isn’t as bad as you extravagantly deplored earlier this week. In fact, football played in temperatures that make your hands numb fits right into the rugged, testosterone bound game’s roots.

[COLUMN] Amid Super Bowl win, Ravens still competing for attention in new sports hotbed

[Updated Feb. 4 11:58 a.m.]

On first mention by most Americans, Washington D.C. is labeled as the political center of the free world while Baltimore is heralded as the setting of the HBO TV drama, The Wire along with being the unofficial home of crab cakes and football.

Over the past year, the area known as the DMV has become a hotbed for competitive and successful sports teams following years of futility and just downright mediocrity.

[COLUMN] Robert Griffin III has mine and the District's approval

Washington, D.C. has been through a whirlwind of emotion over the past week. Postseason baseball returned to the nation's capital for the first time since the FDR administration. The Nationals won an exhilarating Game 4 in walk-off fashion on Jayson Werth’s home run, all before a heart-breaking collapse in the ninth inning of Game 5, roughly 24 hours later, putting an end to the team's promising season.

COLUMN: 'New' refs are superstars after new deal

Referees have always been sport’s whipping boys—the scapegoat one minute and virtually nonexistent the next. However, Thursday night in Baltimore in a game between the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens, the referees were treated like royalty. Like Mick Jagger and the Stones running out onto a stadium stage, Gene Staratore and crew were welcomed to thousands of cheers and applause at M&T Bank Stadium.

COLUMN: NFL, not replacement referees to blame for poor officiating

The first two weeks of the NFL season have come and gone. There are new faces in new places, swapping old digs for new Nike-sponsored jerseys. But not only have there been player swaps but referee swaps as well.

COLUMN: Is there too much pressure on Robert Griffin III?

The Washington Redskins haven't had a franchise quarterback in my lifetime. Since 1992 they have started 21 different quarterbacks. Yes, you read that right, 21 starting quarterbacks in 20 years. The Green Bay Packers have had three starters in that time frame--if you include two starts by back-up Matt Flynn in the last games of the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The one position that the 'Skins have been unable to successfully fill may have found its proverbial savior.

Peyton Manning for 2011 NFL MVP [OPINION]

The Grossman vs. Beck controversy continues for the Redskins

After Rex Grossman's four INT performance against the Eagles, Beck got the nod in the fourth quarter and was able to put the ball into the end zone. Now head coach Mike Shanahan has put the ball in his hands for Sunday's matchup against the Panthers (Photo courtesy of Creative Commons, user Homer McFanboy).

Apple's NFL Fantasy Projections: Week 3

After two weeks, it appears the 2011-12 season is going to be the year of the quarterbacks. Players like defending Super Bowl Champion Aaron Rodgers are expected to perform at high levels every week, and he is projected to score 24 fantasy points in Week 3 (Photo from Creative Commons, user Mike Morbeck).
