2013 Election Overview
|With an election precinct at University Hall, voting in the general election has never been easier for Mason students. On Nov. 5, Mason students will be able to vote for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and the Virginia House of Delegates. To vote, students will need to present valid identification. Libertarian candidate for governor visits Mason
|The Virginia Governor’s race is heating up between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli. In order to build awareness about the other options in the election, third party candidate Robert Sarvis visited Mason, where he visited the Honors 131 class of Mason’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Professor Steven Pearlstein and answered questions from students and guests.

|On the morning of Oct. 22, the Communications department faculty and students packed Dewberry Hall to participate in “Taming the Communication Beast: a University and Industry Forum,” headlined by keynote speaker and NBC Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd.
Administration officials set demolition of Robinson Hall as high priority
|The deliberation is complete: Robinson Hall is in desperate need of an upgrade.
According to Provost Peter Stearns, the Robinson project is based largely on the fact that the building is outdated.

Undercover ex-gay group accuses Mason of obstructing alternative therapies
|Voice of the Voiceless, an organization advocating for the rights of ex-gay individuals, recently went undercover at the Mason LGBTQ resource center to examine how individuals dealing with unwanted sexual attractions are treated at Virginia universities.
Christopher Doyle, president and co-founder of Voice of the Voiceless, believes LGBTQ resource centers at Virginia universities discriminate against both former homosexuals and individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions who do not identify as LGBTQ.
Student senators resolve to promote inclusion, acceptance between campus organizations
|At their meeting on Oct. 3, the Mason Student Senate passed a resolution addressing inclusion, acceptance, free speech and expression among Registered Student Organizations at Mason.
The resolution, to “nurture an environment of inclusion and acceptance, as well as the rights to free speech and expression, between registered student organizations,” is authored by Student Senators Aaron Yohai, Iqra Kapadia and Khushboo Bhatia.
Alcohol incidents more than double on campus
|The 2013 Annual Security Report, released in September, shows a drastic increase in alcohol related arrests and referrals on Mason’s Fairfax campus between 2011 and 2012. While the number of alcohol related arrests decreased from 111 arrests in 2010 to 99 in 2011, the number rose sharply to 247 in 2012, representing a 62 percent increase.
Agencies withdraw from Career Fair in wake of government shutdown
|The government shutdown has begun affecting George Mason University, specifically in this week's Career Fair.

Virginia's Lieutenant Governor candidates debate at Mason
|Tuesday night at the Arlington campus, the candidates for Virginia’s Lieutenant governor talked higher education, sequestration and mental health among others in their first appearance together and their only debate of the election.
Republican E.W. Jackson and Democrat Ralph Northam took the stage together in Founders Hall to answer debate questions moderated by WUSA reporter Peggy Fox.
