Towson assembles seven-run sixth inning to hold off Mason, 10-6

The weather was warm, but the bats stayed cold at Spuhler Field on Friday for the first game of George Mason University’s three-game series against Towson University.

Towson (18-16, 8-5 CAA) executed their small-ball approach almost perfectly, taking advantage of a seemingly disorganized Mason defense, for a 10-6 victory.

The Patriots (12-22, 4-12 CAA) lost control of the game in the sixth, giving up an onslaught of seven runs. Despite a three hit, two double performance from junior right fielder Josh Leemhuis, Mason continued to struggle at the plate.

Search for Porter's replacement reaches final stretch

The George Mason University women's basketball head coaching position could be filled as early as this weekend, according to Mason Athletic Director Tom O'Connor today. 

Coach Jeri Porter resigned as women's basketball coach on March 22 after completing her fifth season at the helm. 

Under her tutelage, Porter achieved a 51-100 record, coached three 1,000-point scorers—Brittany Poindexter, Taleia Moton and Amber Easter—and led the Patriots to their first win in the CAA Tournament since 2006. 

Ninth-straight loss for Mason baseball comes in 16-1 drubbing by Maryland

At the end of the seventh inning, a few crows perched themselves atop the scoreboard at Spuhler Field. It was as if they were waiting to pick away at the beaten and battered George Mason Patriots after the Maryland Terrapins put on a small-ball clinic en route to a 16-1 win.

The Terps sacrificed runners over and drove them in with singles or sacrifice flies. Through the first seven innings of Wednesday’s matinee, Maryland (18-15, 4-11) had four two-run innings and led Mason (12-21, 4-11), 8-0.

Mason men's basketball falls to Santa Clara, 80-77 in the CBI Finals

The George Mason University men's basketball team's season came to an end on a losing note Friday night as Kevin Foster and Santa Clara University held off the Patriots' late advances for a 80-77 College Basketball Invitational Finals win. 

Raucous RAC lifts men's basketball to 73-66 win over Santa Clara, forcing game three on Friday

In front of a capacity crowd of 1,280 in the bandbox RAC Gym, the George Mason University men's basketball team fed off the electric atmosphere en route to a 73-66 victory to force game three at the Patriot Center on Friday. 

Junior guard Sherrod Wright got back on track after scoring only three points in the first game of the CBI Tournament finals, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Wright earned 17 trips to the free throw line, capitalizing on 11 of them.

Men's volleyball unable to top nemesis Penn State in five-set thriller

After celebrating a tough, five-set win against St. Francis on Friday night (25-19, 22-25, 25-12, 17-25, 16-14), feelings were different for the George Mason men’s volleyball team on Saturday. The Patriots completed its weekend home series with a loss against No. 13-ranked archrival Penn State Nittany Lions in just of a dramatic match at the RAC gym – 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-27, 10-15.

Mason men's basketball falls to Santa Clara, 81-73 in the first game of the CBI Championship series

George Mason men's basketball dropped the opening game of the College Basketball Invitational finals to Santa Clara, 81-73 Monday night in San Francisco, Calif.  

The Broncos' Kevin Foster led all scorers with 28 points on 7-of-15 shooting and 5-of-11 from three-point range. Evan Roquemore added 20 points and six assists. 

Kettler gains experience, confidence while at NCAA Wrestling Championships

Two losses ended sophomore heavyweight Jake Kettler’s long trip to the NCAA tournament.

In the preliminary round Kettler lost to Indiana University’s Adam Chalfant. This moved him to the consolation bracket, which pitted him against Dan Scherer from Stanford University.

Mason men's basketball advances to the CBI tournament championship series against Santa Clara

The George Mason University men’s basketball advanced to the finals of the CBI Tournament Wednesday night, downing the Western Michigan Broncos, 62-52 in front of a Patriot Center crowd of 1,684.

Junior forward Jonathan Arledge led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Sherrod Wright, who had an off night by his standards, attributed nine points for the Patriots.

Mason withstands Houston's OT comeback to advance to the CBI Tournament semifinals

Amid the announcement of Mason's move to the Atlantic 10, the men's basketball team had business of their own to take care of in the quarterfinals of the CBI Tournament against the University of Houston. 

In a thrilling overtime finish at the Patriot Center Monday night, the Patriots advanced to the semifinals, defeating the Cougars, 88-84. Junior guard Sherrod Wright led all scorers with 29 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 4-of-6 from three-point range.
