|Men's hoops takes down Hofstra to stay first in the CAA
|In yet another closely contested game, the Patriots (20-6, 12-2) survived by a final count of 72-62 over conference foe Hofstra (8-18, 2-12) Wednesday night in the Patriot Center to remain tied for first place in the CAA standings with VCU and Drexel.
After a sluggish performance for nearly 35 minutes, George Mason played the final stretch like a newly inspired group on both ends of the floor.
“I thought at the end of the game we executed very, very well,” head coach Paul Hewitt said.
Patriots escape for Homecoming victory over ODU, 54-50
|In front of a sold-out Homecoming crowd, the Patriots were able to bounce back from their loss earlier in the week by taking down the Monarchs of Old Dominion by a final count of 54-50 in what was a sluggish game offensively for both squads. With the win, the Patriots swept the Monarchs for the first time in 10 years.
George Mason (19-6, 11-2) shot just 27.7 percent from the floor in the game and ODU (15-10, 10-3) shot just 32.8 percent. Neither team could find the bottom of the basket throughout.
Patriots hope to rebound for Homecoming
|Coming off just their second conference loss, Paul Hewitt and his George Mason Patriots (18-6, 10-2) return to Fairfax looking to dethrone the Monarchs of Old Dominion in front of the Homecoming crowd Saturday afternoon.
With their loss at Delaware Wednesday night, the Patriots also dropped their position alone in first place of the CAA. They now sit in a three-way tie atop the standings with Drexel and VCU. The Patriots lost their only matchup against Drexel this season back on Jan. 12 in Philadelphia and have two games upcoming against rival VCU.
Pearson and the Patriots prevail against JMU for 10th CAA win
|Thanks to Pearson’s CAA Player of the Year caliber performance, Mason (18-5, 10-1) prevailed in a close contest against rival James Madison (10-12, 3-8) by a final count of 89-79. As was expected for a matchup against JMU, the Patriot Center was packed, the student section was loud, and the Green Machine was rocking at full force.
Men's hoops survives against UNCW to stay first in CAA
|Fairfax, Va.– Despite another sloppy, turnover-plagued performance, the Patriots (16-5, 8-1) were able to take down conference foe UNC Wilmington (8-11, 4-5) by a final count of 67-61 for their ninth win in the last 10 games. And more importantly, the win kept them alone atop the CAA standings.
Men's hoops escapes in a slugfest over Towson, 72-60
|Fairfax, Va.– In a game defined by sloppy play and turnovers, the George Mason Patriots came out victorious (15-5, 7-1) against the Towson Tigers, 72-60, maintaining their position on top of the CAA hierarchy and keeping the winless Tigers in the cellar.
Towson (0-20, 0-8) has now lost 39 straight conference games. On the season, they are averaging just 48.9 points per game, good for 344th in the nation, and are averaging just 33.8 rebounds per game, which puts them 229th in the nation.
Men's hoops remains atop CAA standings with win over Delaware
|Fairfax, Va.– The Patriots (14-5, 6-1) came out on fire Wednesday night as they easily defeated the Blue Hens of Delaware (7-10, 3-4) in the first of a three-game conference homestand, 89-63, successfully maintaining their position tied atop the CAA standings with Old Dominion.
Senior forwards Mike Morrison and Ryan Pearson led the way for the Patriots.
“It was a good team effort, obviously Mike and Ryan were terrific tonight, they got the game started,” head coach Paul Hewitt said.

Senior guard Andre Cornelius made his return to the Patriots' lineup Wednesday night in the Patriot Center with 11 points and three steals, however it came in a 75-64 loss to the Duquesne Dukes (John Powell).
