|WAVES hosts opening
Wellness, Alcohol and Violence Education and Services hosted an opening event on Jan. 31 in the Southside lobby. WAVES is a merger of the Office of Alcohol, Drug and Health Education and Sexual Assault Services. The department offers free condoms, 24-hour crisis line, free confidential oral HIV testing and consultation on a variety of topics such as personal health matters, inter-personal violence, stalking, intimate partner violence and sexual assault.
Community updated on Mason transportation and construction projects
|At the quarterly university community forum, nearby residents received updates on different construction and transportation projects around George Mason University’s Fairfax campus. The forum was held on Jan. 30 at Kings Park Library Burke.

The founding of George Mason University was the result of the efforts of many, but the story starts with one person: Charles Harrison Mann, Jr.
Mason officials address student concerns about mold in dorms
|On Dec. 5, university officials met with students to discuss concerns about heightened levels of mold in the Commonwealth and Dominion dormitories.
“There are a lot of rumors going around the halls about mold,” said Chad Fehr, assistant director for resident life in the Rappahannock neighborhood. “We wanted to make sure we address this issue right off the bat.”
Word of mold-related illnesses began early in the week, when some students reported that others were going to the hospital in response to high levels of mold in their rooms and bathroom.
Mason retains interim vice president as permanent head of University Life
|After a semester-long search and review process, George Mason University has decided to keep interim Vice President Rose Pascarell as the permanent head of University Life.
University Life is a division of the Mason administration that creates and manages programs that are meant to broaden the college experience outside of the classroom. Pascarell is replacing Sandy Scherrens, who had held the position for eight years.
Mason hosting town halls for input on strategic vision
|In an effort to create a new vision for the future, George Mason University is hosting a series of town halls that will allow students, faculty and staff to provide input on what they believe should be included in the strategic vision.
“We really do want to be as inclusive as possible,” said Carrie Klein, project manager for President Angel Cabrera’s office. “And reach as many people on campus as we can.”
Mason Enterprise Center hosts open house for new renovations
|The Mason Enterprise Center held an open house to showcase completed renovations of its facility.
“Our primary goal is to support the needs of growing companies,” said Keith Segerson, executive director of MEC. “We provide the tools, insights and infrastructure businesses need to succeed in the ever-changing and competitive marketplace.”
